Can Antivirus Software Detect Past Malware on My Computer?

Hey there! I just ran a scan with my antivirus, and it came back clean. The thing is, I've been using this computer for years without much antivirus protection, maybe just Windows Defender (not totally sure). I'm curious if there's a chance that any malware could've been on my system before and maybe deleted itself or was wiped accidentally by me. Can a solid antivirus program find leftover traces of that kind of malware?

Windows Defender is generally effective, but it can depend on the situation. If there's malware that left traces behind, a decent antivirus could potentially spot them. However, it really varies based on the type of malware and how it operated.

I get that! I've always wondered if certain malware can just simply vanish. Seems like some are designed to be super stealthy.
