Can I Connect My RTX 5080 Directly to My PSU’s 12-Pin Cable?

Hey everyone! I'm setting up my new graphics card, the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming OC 16G, and I noticed that my PSU, the Corsair RM1200x SHIFT, has a dedicated 12-pin cable. I've also got an adapter that came with the card for converting 12-pin to three 8-pins. The package really emphasizes the importance of using only the official 12-pin to 8-pin adapter, which made me wonder: can I directly connect the RTX 5080 to the 12-pin from my PSU instead? It would definitely look cleaner that way. Any advice on this would be super helpful! Thanks!

Nope, you definitely can't use that 12-pin directly. The 5000 series requires a 16-pin 12vhpwr cable. They may look similar, but they're not the same! Just to be safe, make sure you get a proper direct cable from your PSU to avoid any issues. Using those triple 8-pin adapters could be risky.

Yeah, I've heard those can be sketchy. Better to stick with the official cables to ensure everything runs smoothly!

You can go ahead and connect your RTX 5080 directly to the dedicated 12v2x6 cable from your PSU. That’s actually the best route to take. The adapter is mainly for older PSUs that don’t have that cable.

Actually, I think that's not quite right. The 5000 series graphics cards, including the RTX 5080, use a 16-pin 12vhpwr cable, not the 12-pin cable that was for the 3000 series. So it's crucial to get the right connection!
