Can I Delete Messages Attachments on My Mac Without Losing iCloud Data?

My wife's MacBook is low on storage, and I noticed that the Messages attachment folder in the Library is taking up over 100GB. We use iCloud for storage, and her iMessage is synced across her devices, including her iPhone and iPad. I want to free up space by deleting the contents of the Attachments folder on the Mac, but I want to make sure that this won't affect the messages or attachments stored in iCloud. If I delete these files, will it remove them from iCloud or the other devices as well? Is there a safe way to clear up local storage without losing any data from iCloud? I've come across conflicting information about this and would appreciate your insights!

I wouldn't recommend manually deleting the attachments without a backup. Instead, you can go through the Manage Storage option in Settings to remove attachments safely, which keeps everything synced across your devices.

I think removing attachments via the Manage Storage will delete them across all devices. It sounds like you want them off your Mac SSD, but still accessible elsewhere.
