Can I recover my Apple Account without access to its trusted phone number?

I was signed out of my Apple Account on my iPhone. I still know the account email, password, and Recovery Key, and I can access another email address that was previously added to the account. However, two-factor authentication is sending the verification code to an old trusted phone number that I no longer control. Is there any way to regain access using the Recovery Key or alternate email, or do I need to recover the old number or create a new account?

The Recovery Key may be required, but it usually does not replace the trusted phone number. Apple can still require a verification code sent to that number, so begin the official account recovery process and follow the instructions it provides. Be aware that verification can take several days or longer, and there generally is no way to speed it up.

Unfortunately, knowing the password and Recovery Key does not guarantee that you can bypass two-factor authentication. If you cannot recover the trusted number and do not have another trusted device, Apple may not be able to remove that security requirement. If all recovery attempts fail, creating a new account may be the only remaining option.

The additional email address is useful for account communication, but it normally cannot receive the two-factor authentication code unless it is registered as a trusted phone number or otherwise offered as a verification method. The practical options are to regain access to the old number through the carrier, use an already trusted device if you still have one, or contact Apple Support to confirm what recovery options remain.

QuietHarbor22: If Recovery Key protection is enabled, Appleโs normal account-recovery process may not be available. In that case, the Recovery Key and a code sent to the trusted number are both required.
