I previously used an iPhone 15 Pro, but gave it to my dad and switched to Android for nearly a year. I recently bought an iPhone Air and realized I can't remember the password for my Apple Account, which contains years of app purchases, iCloud data, and photos. I tried resetting the password, but the process requires a recovery key that I no longer have. The account recovery contact I had set up also didn't work. Is there any official way to regain access, or am I permanently locked out?

Unfortunately, a recovery key is specifically designed to prevent anyone—including support—from resetting the account without it. Check any old devices, password managers, notes, printed documents, or stored files where you might have saved the key. If it’s truly gone and account recovery fails, you may need to continue with the new account.
If a recovery key was enabled and you no longer have it, access may be extremely difficult. Apple generally can’t bypass that security measure, especially if you don’t have another trusted device already signed in. Try Apple’s official account-recovery process and contact Apple Support, but there may be no way to restore the account without the required verification.
It’s still worth making one final attempt through Apple’s official recovery channel and explaining that you are the original account holder. Have your trusted phone number, previous device details, purchase receipts, and other account information ready, although none of those are guaranteed to override a missing recovery key.

I was hoping there was a longer manual review process like the one I went through years ago, but it sounds like the recovery-key rules are stricter now.
