Can I still get AppleCare after cracking my new iPhone screen?

My two-week-old iPhone 17 slipped out of my bag this morning and hit concrete, badly cracking the upper-right part of the screen. Apple quoted me about A$600 for an out-of-warranty repair. Would it be possible or worthwhile to purchase AppleCare now and use it for the screen repair, or is it too late because the damage already happened?

AppleCare would have been useful before the accident, but adding it after the screen is already damaged usually wonโ€™t work. Donโ€™t pay for coverage assuming it will cover this incident; contact Apple directly to confirm your available repair options and pricing.

Unfortunately, AppleCare generally needs to be purchased before accidental damage occurs. You shouldnโ€™t expect to be able to add coverage now and use it for this repair, since the phone may be inspected or run through diagnostics first. The safest option is to ask Apple about the official out-of-warranty repair price and any authorized repair alternatives.
