I'm transitioning my laptop to Linux Mint since Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10, and I'm currently backing up all my files. I know that Microsoft Office won't work on Linux, but I plan to use LibreOffice. I hope I can simply transfer my .docx and .xlsx files onto a USB drive and open them directly in LibreOffice after switching to Linux, without needing to convert everything to ODF. Is this possible?

Absolutely, you can open those files. Just be aware that some specific formatting might not come through exactly as it looks in Microsoft Office. Still, it's a great way to avoid the hassle of converting everything. Also, if you encounter issues, you might try a different tool like OnlyOffice if LibreOffice doesn't handle it well.
Yes, you can definitely open your Word and Excel files with LibreOffice on Linux Mint! Just keep in mind that while it generally works well, sometimes formatting might not be perfect, and certain features may not translate correctly. But you should be good to go overall.
Yes, you should have no problem opening .docx and .xlsx files with LibreOffice. However, bear in mind that certain complex formatting could look off. But if you're not too bothered about fonts and style, it's definitely manageable!
Thanks for the responses! I appreciate the tips. I'm not too picky about fonts, so I think I'll give it a shot. Just good to know I won't have to convert everything between formats.
