I'm trying to figure out if I can use my Sony DVD player, which I typically use for watching movies via HDMI on my TV, to install Windows on a new computer I'm putting together. It seems like it could save some money compared to other methods. Is this possible?

Unfortunately, you can't use a DVD player for this purpose. While it can read the installation media, there's no way to connect it to your PC for booting up. Your PC's BIOS doesn't support booting from HDMI input.
