I just built my new PC and connected my GPU to the PCIe slot. However, I haven't connected the GPU's power cables to the power supply yet. Do I need to make these connections, or is it okay to leave them disconnected?

Exactly! Those cables aren't doing anything just hanging there. Make sure to plug them into the power supply to get your GPU up and running.
Yeah, you definitely need to connect those power cables to the power supply! The PCIe slot alone won't power the GPU, which is why it has those additional connections. Without power, your GPU won't function at all.
