Does Apple delete inactive iCloud accounts after one year?

I've heard that Apple may delete an iCloud account after it has been inactive for a year. Is that actually enforced, or is it only a clause in the terms? Has anyone experienced an account being removed for inactivity?

In practice, it doesnโt seem to happen consistently. I have an old iCloud account dating back to the MobileMe era that I havenโt logged into for roughly seven years, and itโs still active. I had simply forwarded its email elsewhere, so Apple may treat some activity or account usage differently. I wouldnโt rely on that, thoughโif the account matters, signing in periodically is safer.

Yes, Appleโs iCloud terms say the company may terminate an account after one year of inactivity, with 30 daysโ notice sent to the email address associated with the account. The wording is โmay,โ so it gives Apple the option rather than guaranteeing that every inactive account will be deleted.
