Help! All My USB Ports Are Dead Suddenly

I'm having a huge issue with my laptop (Acer Nitro AN517-52, running Windows 11) where all the USB ports have stopped working. This happened right after I was using Blender and pressed Shift + A, which makes me wonder if there's a connection. I have tried every possible fix you can think of—restarting the computer, disabling the Selective USB suspend, updating and uninstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows 11, checking the BIOS, and even doing a factory reset. The only thing that still works is the audio jack. Sometimes, my headphones will briefly work when I insert them into the USB-C port, but just for a moment. I also get error messages saying that the USB device malfunctioned. Any ideas on what might be going on and how to fix it?

It sounds like it might be an issue with your USB controller if all ports are affected at once. Since this is a laptop, it's possible everything is routed through a single controller, and something may have shorted it out. Think about the devices you were using. Have you noticed any issues with static or grounding? Sometimes peripherals can cause problems like this. Just be careful when playing with the BIOS or system settings, as you don’t want to risk losing your data!

That sounds really frustrating! I had a similar issue before, and in my case, the USB controller had failed. If a built-in device gets a short circuit, it can damage the controller, rendering the ports useless. Maybe try testing all your devices one by one to see if one of them is causing the issue, or consult a professional if the problem persists.
