Help! My PC Won’t Turn On After Being Powered Down

I've got a roughly 10-year-old PC build, and while some parts are newer, it generally runs fine when it's on. However, after intentionally powering it down, it refuses to start again. This has happened a few times before but usually resolves itself in an hour or two. Now, though, it's been over 24 hours without any functionality. I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps: I shorted the PSU to check if it works (though I accidentally left the HDD plugged in, so I hope I didn't break it!), unplugged and replugged everything, tried turning it on with minimal parts (with all peripherals disconnected), replaced the CMOS battery, and I've been holding and mashing the power button as well as shorting the power switch pins to try and start it. Unfortunately, nothing has worked—there are no lights, beeps, or fan movements (except during my PSU test). It's frustrating because I feel like if I hadn't shut it down, it would still be running fine. I'm really hoping to avoid replacing parts unless I'm absolutely sure that's the issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Did you try plugging it into a different power outlet? Sometimes that's the simple fix!

Yeah, I tried another outlet and even used a different surge protector. The PSU works because I got the fan to spin when I shorted it.

If you’re looking for actual help from someone trained, have you tried local repair shops? Sometimes they can be hit or miss, but talking to a pro could save you a lot of guesswork.

Have you checked that the power switch on the PSU is in the 'on' position? Also, make sure all your cables are securely connected—sometimes those can come loose without you realizing it.

I checked those too. Nothing seems out of place.
