I lost my dad yesterday, and all I want is to access his phone to see our memories together. He never shared his passwords, and I tried using my name, but it didn't work. I'm concerned about getting locked out if I guess incorrectly. Is a court order the only option I have now? He owned several Apple devices, including an iPad, iPhone, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and an Apple Watch Ultra. Can any of these help me access his data?

Unfortunately, you'll need a death certificate and a court order to access his Apple account. However, there's no way to unlock the phone itself without the passcode.
Check out this Apple article on accessing a deceased family member’s account. It’s true that you can't unlock the device straight away, but if he had an iCloud backup, you could retrieve some of his data. Also, if you have any voicemails, consider saving them in a note or emailing them to yourself. That could be comforting.
I'm really sorry for your loss. It’s a bit morbid, but I wonder if the funeral director could help unlock the phone using facial recognition?
The court order will give you access to the iCloud account, but it won't unlock the phone. If your dad had iCloud backups set up, you might be able to recover some pictures and memories that way. Try to help the phone complete a backup by keeping it connected to a known WiFi and power for at least 24 hours – that might give you access once you get into the account.
