Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a jam. My dad and I share the same iCloud account, and I've realized he can see all the text messages my friends send me. He claims it's because my number is connected to the iCloud account, which is why my messages go to his phone too. Interestingly, my brother's number (also sharing the same iCloud) isn't showing up under his settings, and he doesn't have this issue. The settings say, 'This phone number can be used to sign in, verify your identity, and help recover your account. It can also be used to reach you with iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and more. If you want to remove this number and have the iPhone that uses it, turn off iMessage and FaceTime on it first.' My question is, if I deregister my number, will I lose it permanently? I just want to stop my dad from seeing my messages for now but still want to keep using my number with iMessage and FaceTime later. Are there any other suggestions? Thanks!

You could try going into your settings and changing the message settings on your phone. Specifically, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if you can remove your dad’s email or phone number from there. This might help separate your messages from his.
Sharing an iCloud account can really complicate privacy! The best way to go about it is for each person to have their own iCloud account. If you're concerned about keeping your messages private, consider setting up Family Sharing. This way, everyone has their own unique account, but you can still share certain features like calendars or locations if you wish.
Yeah, merging accounts is kind of like sharing an email address. It’s really not ideal! Having your own account is the safest way to handle private messages. Plus, setting up a family account can help with sharing things like calendars without compromising personal privacy.

Yeah, that could definitely help! Just make sure you backup your messages first, just in case.
