I'm working on getting the NVIDIA drivers set up for my GTX 1070 on a new PC build. I'm running Debian 12 Bookworm with KDE Plasma, and this is my first experience with Linux. I've been stuck because I keep getting a failure when starting the NVIDIA persistence daemon. From what I've read, it seems like this might usually happen due to unsigned drivers being blocked by secure boot, but I've actually disabled secure boot.
I've followed the instructions on the Debian wiki for installing NVIDIA drivers but skipped a couple of steps since I don't have dracut installed. I've tried different installation commands: "apt install nvidia-driver firmware-misc-nonfree" and "apt install nvidia-open-kernel-dkms nvidia-driver firmware-misc-nonfree".
Although avoiding the open kernel dkms allowed me to reach the SDDM login screen, I got booted back to the login after trying to log in. Installing the open kernel dkms leads to the error I mentioned in the title. I've also reinstalled Linux multiple times and tweaked BIOS settings, but nothing seems to change. Any advice?

I had a similar issue before! Just a heads-up, when you switch to AMD in the future, their drivers come preinstalled, so you won't have this hassle. Just remember to uninstall any NVIDIA packages before swapping out the GPU!
Hey, did you run `sudo nvidia-xconfig`? That step is part of the installation guide, but I don't see it mentioned in your post, so just checking! Also, if you're looking for an easier way to manage NVIDIA drivers, Linux Mint offers a GUI option that simplifies the process.
