I use Outlook on my phone for my college email, but I'm having trouble sending messages from my MacBook. The account is connected through the Mail app using my college's Exchange server. Incoming messages arrive normally, but every outgoing message fails with an error saying it can't send through the college server and suggesting another outgoing server or trying again later. The only other listed server is Google, which also doesn't work and shows a warning icon. My messages contain only text, and I haven't changed my password recently. What should I check to get outgoing mail working?

Since incoming mail works, the problem is probably with the outgoing Exchange setup rather than your mailbox itself. First, try removing the college account from the Mac’s Mail settings and adding it again using the school’s official Exchange setup instructions. Make sure you select Exchange rather than setting it up as a generic IMAP or SMTP account. If the account is managed by your college, outgoing mail may require their specific server settings or authentication, so their IT department may need to reset or enable SMTP access. The Google server warning usually means that account is incomplete or has an authentication/configuration problem; it won’t normally send college email unless it’s configured for that purpose.

My messages are only text and my password hasn’t changed. I’ll try removing and adding the college account again. Outlook started working afterward, but I’m still unsure how to remove the old college server from Mail.
