Is Humidity a Concern for My Electronics in the Basement?

I'm planning to move my consoles, laptop, and Blu-rays into my basement, but I'm worried about humidity levels. I have a dehumidifier set to maintain humidity at around 45%. Currently, the temperature is 60°F with 50% humidity. Do I need to be concerned about this situation affecting my electronics?

You only need to worry about humidity if there's mold or mildew in your basement. Otherwise, you should be fine! Keeping the humidity under 50% should protect your gear. Long-term exposure, like 7 years, might cause some corrosion, but most electronics can handle a bit of humidity. Just check their ratings online if you're worried.

I've actually kept a standard TV outside under coverage for five years without any issues, so it seems manageable!

Electronics really just don’t like condensation. You'll be safe until humidity hits near 90%. Even then, condensation forms only with a significant temp difference between the air and the object, which isn’t likely in a basement. So, you’re in a good spot!

You'll probably be just fine! At 60°F, you'd only start to worry if humidity creeps into the high 80s. If it gets hotter, that threshold drops. Keeping it around 50% means you should be in good shape even if the temperature rises.

You're definitely on the right track! We maintain our data center around 50% humidity and keep the temp near 70°F. Seems like your setup will work well too!
