I'm considering purchasing a showroom display QD-OLED monitor because it's around $450 cheaper and comes with a 2-year warranty. Do you think this is worth it, or would it be a risky buy?

I need more details to say if it’s a good deal. What’s the original price of the monitor? If it's $450 off a $700 model, sure! But if it’s $450 off a $2000 model, then that's a hard pass for me.

I would never buy a used OLED. They might have unseen issues, and showroom models often don’t have the same quality as a brand-new one. I’d stick with a new monitor for peace of mind.

Definitely a no for me unless there’s a much bigger discount. I wouldn’t trust a showroom monitor due to potential quality loss.

I wouldn't recommend it. Showroom monitors are usually pushed to their limits and often exhibit the same content over and over, which can lead to issues like burn-in. It's a gamble if you ask me!

But if it does burn in, I thought the warranty would cover it? Isn’t that a good safety net?

That's true, but you have to check if the warranty includes burn-in damage specifically.

If it's cheap and the burn-in risk is low, then why not? Most people worry too much about burn-in on OLEDs. I’ve had tons of OLEDs and haven't noticed any burn-in issues at all, even with heavy use. The technology has improved a lot since then!
