I've been using my computer with a main SSD and a secondary SATA HDD for a while now. Unfortunately, the HDD is starting to fail, and I've realized that gaming on an HDD just isn't cutting it anymore. My main SSD is only 500GB, which doesn't provide enough space to store games. I've had experience with an external hard drive for Steam games on my old laptop, and it worked fine. Now that I have a desktop, I'm considering investing in a 2TB Seagate portable SSD. However, my research shows mixed opinions about using an external SSD for gaming. Some people say it's not playable, while others insist it's perfectly fine. I'm looking for advice on whether it's worth the investment. If the downsides are just slightly longer load times or occasional graphical glitches, I can manage that, but I'm worried about games not working at all. Here are some relevant specs: *Processor*: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2687W v2 @ 3.40GHz, 8 Cores, 16 Logical Processors; *RAM*: 32.0 GB; *Graphics Card*: Radeon RX 570 Series.

If you have enough SATA slots, I'd suggest getting a second internal SSD, maybe a 1TB one. That would offer better performance overall. If your motherboard has a spare PCIe x1 slot, you could use an M.2 NVMe adapter to fit a 1TB SSD as well. Just keep in mind, older boards might have some issues with compatibility.
