Hey everyone, I lost my iPhone 16 Pro when my kayak flipped in some rapids yesterday. I have insurance for Lost & Theft, but I want to make sure I'm handling this right.
I tried accessing iCloud, but since I can't use 2FA without my lost phone, I'm locked out. The 'Find My iPhone' feature showed my device as offline just an hour after the accident. I'm not sure if it floated away and died or if there's something worse going on. I'm pretty certain I had Find My iPhone activated since I never turned it off.
After searching for the phone in the really cold water for hours, I went to the nearby Apple Store. They couldn't help much but directed me to the AIG contact form to file a claim, which I filled out this morning.
I also called Apple Support from my Google Voice at home since I live alone and don't have a lot of options for access. The rep suggested I start Account Recovery for my iCloud to eventually file a claim and get a new phone. I began that process, but when they asked for my credit card verification, the system flagged my correct security code, so I'm stuck there too. Right now, I only have my email and Google Voice for contacts and verification.
My work relies on my phone for 2FA, so I'm worried about being out of action for a while. Any thoughts on if I'm doing this right?

You can actually log into the online version of Find My iPhone without the 2FA by going to icloud.com/find. It might provide a bit more information about your phone's status directly from the browser.

Oh yeah, I did that as soon as I got home last night, but it still said "Offline." So I'm not sure what's happening!
