Hey everyone, I'm trying to decide between the 9800X3D and the 7800X3D for my new gaming PC build. I've been using an i7 7700K with a Strix 3070 for years now, mostly playing World of Warcraft. With a third child on the way in November, I want to upgrade my rig before then. Pricing here in Australia is $729 for the 7800X3D and $879 for the 9800X3D. Is the performance boost worth the extra $150? I'm also planning to upgrade my GPU later when prices drop.

If you're mainly gaming in WoW, the 9800X3D is a solid choice. It’s about 15% faster, which can make a big difference in a CPU-heavy game like WoW. Just keep in mind, even if your GPU isn't top-of-the-line, having a strong CPU can still be beneficial for overall performance.
From my experience, the 9800X3D provides a noticeable performance uplift in WoW. It’s especially good for raiding and large-scale PvP, which can be really CPU-intensive. You might see around a 40-60% improvement in performance, which is significant.
I'd definitely go for the 9800X3D. It’ll save you from any regrets later on. You’ll be better off with the best available option now, especially since you plan to keep this rig for a while.
Honestly, the 7800X3D will still handle all your gaming needs perfectly. If you're just playing WoW, you won’t necessarily need the 9800X3D unless you're multitasking heavily, like streaming or video editing during gameplay.
I chose the 7800X3D and spent the extra cash on other parts of my build. In many games, I found the difference between the two wasn't more than 5%. For me, it wasn't worth the extra cost.
