Is Upgrading to ChatGPT o3 Pro Worth It for Dissertation Interviews?

I'm working on a qualitative dissertation and I'm thinking about trying out ChatGPT o3 Pro for a month to assist with designing and analyzing my interviews. Currently, I'm using the free o3 version, but I'm curious if the Pro version would offer significant advantages for my project.

My dissertation topic focuses on how structured practices from professional settings can be integrated into traditional organizational environments. Each interview needs to be customized based on the structure of the company and the interviewees, so a standard approach won't work.

Here's what I'm hoping to accomplish with ChatGPT:
1. I know which companies to approach and the kinds of people I want to interview.
2. I'd like o3 to help me generate tailored interview questions and follow-ups for different companies.
3. I'm looking for advice on the best roles to interview within each company (not personal names but job titles).
4. After the interviews, I'd like assistance in coding the transcripts thoroughly—not just summarizing themes, but creating a detailed coding table with themes, subthemes, and relevant quotes that I can incorporate directly into my analysis.

Has anyone tried o3 Pro for qualitative work? Is it significantly better than the free version for complex tasks like this? I only need it for a month during this intensive research period, so I'm also wondering if the £20 investment is worth it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if we're just talking about twenty bucks, I think it’s worth the try! You might as well test drive o3 Pro and see if it gives you the edge you need. It can’t hurt, right?

Exactly! Twenty bucks is a small investment for potentially big benefits.

I’ve used both NVivo and o3 Pro while working on my dissertation, and honestly, I found o3 Pro really helpful for brainstorming interview questions and customizing them based on each company. It excels during the planning phase. That said, for coding the transcripts, it's more of a smart assistant rather than a full qualitative analysis tool. It doesn’t clearly indicate if it captured all key themes, and I ended up needing to pair it with AILYZE for proper coding tables and thematic coverage. If your analysis is serious, o3 Pro can help, but you'll want a dedicated QDA tool too for the heavy lifting.

That's a solid approach! AILYZE really helps to keep everything organized.
