I recently performed a full upgrade of my virtual machine running Ubuntu 22.04 after not updating for about three months. Unfortunately, after the reboot, Docker stopped working. The error messages were pretty vague and it seems like the networking got messed up. I had to restore the VM from a backup, but I want to get the updates installed eventually. I'm open to upgrading to version 24.04, but I'm concerned about messing up Docker again. Has anyone encountered similar issues, and do you have any advice on how to mitigate these risks?

Are you installing Docker from the Ubuntu repository or following the installation steps directly from docker.com? It can make a difference sometimes.
Just a heads up, Docker version 28 had some networking issues. They released a fix in version 28.0.1, but I still faced problems with it on Ubuntu 24.04. There's now version 28.0.2 out, but I haven't tested it yet.
My home lab runs Ubuntu server 24.04.2 with Docker version 28.0.4 from the Docker repo, and I've had no issues, though I did cause some networking problems with my setup. Do you think the issues are related to how Docker interacts with your VM?
