My Laptop is Freezing and Showing Weird Glitches – Need Help!

I've been having a really frustrating day with my laptop. It's been displaying glitchy colored boxes and freezing up. It's even restarting on its own, and when I try the automatic diagnosis, it doesn't tell me what's wrong or offer any fixes. I'm at a loss because nothing has changed since it was working fine last night.

Some of my friends think I might have damaged something inside when I cleaned it and accidentally didn't disconnect the battery. I'm open to considering that, especially since it started acting weird after I took a look inside. There were some suspicions about the RAM being unseated or fried. We tried putting stress on my CPU and RAM to see if it would glitch out, but I managed to use it for about an hour without issues before it glitched again.

Right now, I see these black and red squares on my screen, which is really concerning. As a college student, I don't have easy access to repair services; there's no computer service center at my university, and the closest Best Buy is a 20-minute drive away, which I can't manage. I might upload some pictures later if that helps, but I wanted to get some advice first.

It sounds like your issues might stem from hardware damage, unfortunately. The weird visual problems you mentioned are often signs of GPU VRAM problems. There could also be an issue with your RAM. I suggest you try reseating the RAM modules or using MemTest86 if you can to check for faults. Given that you didn't disconnect the battery while cleaning, something might have shorted, possibly affecting your GPU or RAM. If you can access the BIOS and see glitches there, it likely confirms hardware damage.

That's a rough situation! It's definitely a tough lesson about handling laptop internals without proper precautions. As for whether it’s salvageable, it really depends on what’s damaged. If your RAM comes out okay after testing, there might still be a chance. It’s great you managed to back up your files before it acted up more! And just to clarify—if you hadn’t opened it before the glitches started, it may just be a coincidence that it failed afterwards.
