Hey everyone, I'm really stuck with my HP laptop running Windows 10. It started having trouble with updates and now it's perpetually stuck on messages like "undoing changes" or "preparing automatic repair." I usually wait at least 2 hours, but nothing happens. I'm not very tech-savvy and I've tried launching safe mode, but it takes forever to load. I ran some system diagnostics and everything looks okay, except my battery is pretty old. Should I keep waiting for it to complete? If I take it to a repair shop, can they save my files? Is there a way to update it through a USB drive or something? I've searched online and watched videos, but the main issue is that I can't get into safe mode to fix anything.

You might be able to use a USB drive with the Windows installer to update your system without doing a complete reinstall. But if your main concern is recovering files, consider booting from a live Linux USB. It can access your files so you can back them up somewhere else before trying any repairs.
Totally agree! Using a live Linux USB is a great way to grab your files first. After that, you could try a system restore or a fresh Windows installation.
