Need Help with My New PC Build!

Hey everyone! My PC just broke down this week, and it's been crashing a lot. Since it's 11 years old, I was already planning to upgrade, especially with all the tariffs going on. I built this computer myself a long time ago, but I'd love some advice on my new build since I want to keep using my Zotac 1080 GPU for now while I save up for something better.

Here's what I've got so far:

[PCPartPicker Part List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j6rVyW)
1. **CPU:** Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz - $108.99
2. **CPU Cooler:** ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 360 - $171.73
3. **Motherboard:** MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX - $174.99
4. **Memory:** Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-6000 - $124.99
5. **Video Card:** MSI GeForce RTX 3080 - $785.99
6. **Case:** Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower - $139.99
7. **Power Supply:** Corsair RM850e 850 W - $129.99

**Total:** $1636.67

I'd really appreciate any feedback on this build. Are there any major mistakes or compatibility issues? Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

Great choice with the memory! Picking an AM5 socket might give you a boost in gaming these days. I’d recommend looking at a B650 motherboard along with a Ryzen 5 processor. Also, what resolution are you aiming for with this build?

I’m hoping to hit 2K at 60 FPS on medium settings. I'm also a 3D artist experimenting with indie game development. Thanks for the input!

I took a look at your build, and I'd suggest a few changes for better performance and value. For the CPU, consider going with an AMD option like the Ryzen 5 7600X, which offers great gaming performance. Also, the Liquid Freezer III cooler is super effective but might be overkill for your setup. A cheaper air cooler like the Phantom Spirit could save you some cash. For the GPU, the 5070 might actually give you better performance for a lower price right now, especially given the current market. Lastly, I'd switch the PSU to a beQuiet brand, which are known for their silent operation and good warranties.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve always thought Intel was better for Nvidia GPUs, but I’ve heard more about AMD’s value lately. Is that the main reason for the switch?

Not a fan of these builds, honestly. Are you close to a Micro Center? If this is mostly for gaming, I have some concerns about value. It seems like you’d be better off building something a little leaner. Also, what games are you playing?

Sadly, no Micro Center nearby. Just curious, what's wrong with these builds then? I'm primarily gaming but also need something decent for 3D work, which my old machine did well.

I revamped your build to include a faster CPU and GPU without increasing the price much. Here’s what I suggest:
1. **CPU:** i7-12700KF
2. **Cooler:** Thermalright Aqua Elite V3
3. **Motherboard:** MSI MAG B760 TOMAHAWK
4. **Memory:** Patriot Viper Venom 32 GB
5. **Storage:** Silicon Power 2TB NVMe SSD
6. **Video Card:** RX 9070 XT

This should give you better overall performance without breaking the bank. Your 1080 will work fine in the meantime too!

Wow, thanks a lot for that! Do you think my 1080 will comfortably handle things until I can get a better GPU?
