I'm on the hunt for a good 1440p or 4K monitor that offers impressive black levels and doesn't suffer from backlight bleed, all for under $250. I know OLEDs are the gold standard for black levels, but I'm not expecting to find one in this price range. I've heard that VA panels with at least a 3000:1 native contrast ratio come close to OLED performance for budget options. There are so many monitors available, though, and it's hard to choose. Any suggestions?

The Samsung Odyssey VA monitors might have an acceptable level of smearing, but I'm not sure if they’d fit within your budget at the moment.
Mini-LEDs are sort of the next best thing to OLED because of their dimming zones, but you're unlikely to find one for under $250. Honestly, I’d set your expectations lower in this price range. Look for VA panels, but be prepared for at least some backlight bleed since decent local dimming may be absent at this budget. Check out rtings.com for some solid reviews and recommendations!
Totally agree! I've been scouring sites for monitors within my budget too. Found some good deals on second-hand ones like my S34J55 for just $80!
For your budget? You might want to consider a CRT instead if you have a dark room. They do offer great blacks!
Buying used could be your best option here. You might score a decent monitor at a much lower price if you're willing to go that route.
I recommend taking a look at the AOC Q27G3XMN. It's about $250 and the black levels are surprisingly good. I use it as a second monitor and it's far better than my old IPS.
