I've had my custom-built PC for about a decade now, and I'm thinking about whether to upgrade some components or just buy a completely new system. My primary goal is to be able to play most modern games at least on medium graphical settings without sacrificing performance too much.
Here are my current specs:
- Power Supply: 750W EVGA/Corsair
- Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K 3.5GHz (Skylake)
- Motherboard: ASUS/GIGABYTE (Intel Z170 chipset)
- Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 970 4GB
- Memory: 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
- Storage: 250GB SSD (Samsung 850 EVO) + 1TB HDD (Seagate) + 1 empty slot
I know I'll need to upgrade multiple components, but I'm uncertain if it's worth it to keep my existing case. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend going for a prebuilt system, especially since your current GPU can't handle games made after 2014 very well. Make sure any new build includes at least a 750W PSU and a GPU with 16GB VRAM, and aim for 32GB DDR5 RAM. Also, I'd steer clear of the 13th and 14th-generation Intel chips if you can.
Honestly, it looks like your PC doesn't have a solid upgrade path. Given the age of your parts, it might be best to sell what you have and invest in a completely new build. You'll likely get much better performance for the price.
Why would you ever need to go below 1000W for a PSU? It's usually not much more expensive, and it gives a good peace of mind.
