I'm helping a friend troubleshoot his PC that has a 7800x3d processor. He's been experiencing shutdowns after about 2-3 minutes of use, with idle temperatures ranging from 44 to 60 degrees. The issue started about two weeks ago, but it was running fine for a time before it started shutting down. When playing Fortnite, the temps would spike to 77 degrees before it shuts off. The CPU was bought second-hand online, and I'm wondering if it could be faulty. Any insights on what could be causing these shutdowns would be super helpful!

Good point! Yes, he mentioned a weird squealing noise right before it shut down. I have him disconnecting everything and holding the power button to clear any residual charge to prevent bricking the system. He’s using a Seasonic 750W Gold-rated PSU with a Gigabyte B650 mobo and an ASRock 9070XT, which should handle the load.
If the temps are fine, I would suspect the power supply. A second-hand unit can sometimes be unreliable. Did he mention any odd noises before the shutdowns?
It doesn't sound like overheating, but it could be a power supply issue. What other specs does his system have?
