What CPU Upgrade Should I Choose for My Gaming Setup?

Hey everyone! I recently got a 9070XT and I'm currently using a 12400F for gaming at 1080p. I've noticed that my CPU is bottlenecking during gameplay, so I'm considering an upgrade. I'm looking at the 7800X3D but I'm also curious if the 9800XD would be a better option for the future. Ideally, I want my CPU to last about 7 years until I change my GPU, and I'm targeting around 144 FPS for both competitive and AAA games. How long do you think the 9800XD could maintain 120+ FPS at 1080p?

First off, do you have DDR4 or DDR5 RAM? If you're using DDR4, you can still get a notable boost in performance by sticking with your current motherboard while upgrading to a 14600K CPU. It's a smart move if you're looking to avoid spending too much right now. Just keep an eye out for sales; I've seen the 14600K dip to around $165 on places like Woot! That said, it should still give you a decent performance boost, even if it might not be the same as a new platform upgrade.

Gotcha! I'm on DDR4, but I heard my motherboard isn't great for higher-end CPUs. Looks like I need to replace the motherboard, RAM, and CPU then.
