Hey everyone! I have an older PC with the following specs: i5 3470, GT 610, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive. I'm looking for some advice on which operating system would be best for it, primarily between different Windows versions. Any suggestions?

If you're open to it, a Linux distribution could do wonders for an older PC. Something like Linux Mint is beginner-friendly and it might feel like a fresh experience, even if it’s different from Windows.

That sounds interesting, but I'm concerned about drivers for my old GPU.

Linux is a solid choice for older machines. It's lightweight, and with a distro like Mint, you probably won’t even notice the difference. Just be mindful of driver compatibility, especially since the GT 610 is quite old.

Exactly, I do worry about drivers since my GPU is over 10 years old.

I had a similar setup, and I found Windows 10 worked just fine for my needs. You might want to give it a shot!

Are you using the LTSC version or the regular one?

You could also consider Windows 10 or Windows 11 LTSC. Just FYI, I tried Windows 11, and I ran into a lot of stuttering and freezes though.

What will you mainly use the PC for? If it’s just some casual browsing or moderate tasks like watching videos, Ubuntu is a great choice. It's always up to date and won’t leave you stuck on an unsupported Windows version. We even have Ubuntu running on an old PC at home, and it handles our needs just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion!
