Hey everyone! So, I recently tried to power on my PC and heard a loud pop, followed by a cloud of white smoke coming from the bottom—I'm pretty sure it's the power supply that blew. I instantly turned off and unplugged my PC, but now I'm concerned about whether my other components are okay or if they've been damaged. I'm wondering:
1. How can I diagnose and possibly fix this situation myself, or should I just take it to a shop to avoid making things worse?
2. What steps can I take to prevent this from happening in the future?
For context, here are my specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) DDR4 @ 3200MHz
- Motherboard: MSI B550M-PRO-VDH
- GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
- PSU: Corsair CX750M
The PSU is at least 5 years old, and the GPU is also over 5 years old since I bought it used, while the other components are about 2 years old. The power strip I'm using was bought in 2016, and all other devices connected to it (monitor, fan, phone charger) are working fine. I've read online that this could be due to a power surge. I'm pretty upset because this PC means a lot to me, and I can't afford a whole new setup right now, but if it's just a PSU replacement plus some preventive measures, I can manage that cost.

Definitely replace the PSU as soon as you can! A faulty power supply can really mess things up. It's like a ticking time bomb inside your PC!
Do you have any suggestions for a reliable PSU? I feel like 750W might be overkill for my setup, especially since I've been upgrading it gradually.
