What to do when my computer thinks a non-existent key is being pressed?

I've been struggling with a weird issue on my PC where it keeps indicating that the "media previous" key is constantly being pressed down, even though I don't have that key on my keyboard. This has been going on for a couple of months now. I've tried updating and uninstalling my keyboard drivers, switching keyboards, and even unplugging the keyboard, but the issue persists—even when no keyboard is connected! Every time I start my computer, I have to run a program to remap my keys, which requires a restart to take effect. For context, I'm using a Ducky keyboard and running Windows 11. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's possible that it's not your keyboard at all. If you have a multi-button mouse, that could be triggering the media key. Try checking the mouse settings to see if one of the buttons is configured incorrectly or perhaps stuck down.

It might be a good idea to plug in a different keyboard, just to rule that out. If the problem persists, I suggest resetting your PC to a previous restore point. If that doesn't work, you might need to bite the bullet and reinstall Windows. I know, it sounds painful, but it can solve a lot of issues!

Yeah, reinstalling sounds like a big hassle. But I guess it's an option if nothing else works!

Have you checked if your computer has any built-in media controls? Sometimes, the front panel of the PC may have functionality that could be causing this. Just a thought!

I haven't looked into that yet, but it’s worth checking for sure!
