I've got an older Iiyama 24-inch monitor from about 12 years ago that's recently started making a crackling noise, almost like it's arcing. I work in the tech field, but this is something I've never actually encountered before. The monitor uses CCFL backlights, so I'm wondering if the bulb is finally on its way out? The sound seems to come from the top back of the monitor, definitely not from the speakers.

Sounds like it could be the CCFL bulb nearing the end of its life. Since the sound is coming from the back, that’s a strong possibility. If you’re not keen on troubleshooting it further, replacing the monitor might be a good option. They’re pretty cheap on sites like eBay or even at local charity shops.
As a software developer, I get where you're coming from, but sometimes troubleshooting involves knowing your limits and asking for help. Not everyone is familiar with electrical issues like this. If you weigh the cost of repair against getting a new monitor, it might just be time to upgrade instead!
Definitely! Knowing when to ask for help is important, and I think I’m leaning towards the upgrade option.
True! I’ve been thinking about upgrading to something bigger anyway, maybe a 27-inch. I'll keep that in mind!
