What’s causing the crackling sound from my old monitor?

I have a 12-year-old Iiyama 24-inch monitor that's recently started making a crackling sound, almost like it's arcing. I work in tech but haven't encountered this issue before. The monitor uses CCFL backlights, so I'm wondering if the bulb might finally be dying. The noise is coming from the top back of the monitor, not the speakers.

Since it’s a CCFL monitor, you might just want to replace it. You can find newer monitors pretty cheap on eBay or even in charity shops for under £30. If you’re already considering an upgrade, this might be the right motivation to make that leap!

Yeah, I've been thinking about upgrading to a 27-inch monitor anyway. It still works for now, but maybe this is the push I need!

You work in tech, so you probably know how to search for troubleshooting tips, right? But really, for something like this, sometimes it’s better to just check with the community first for insights.

I'm a software developer, not an electrical engineer! I think it's smart to ask for help when you're not sure.
