I'm new to building PCs and want to put together the most powerful gaming system possible for about $1,400 before tax. I'm hoping to buy the parts this weekend from the Micro Center near Paterson, New Jersey, so availability and in-store bundles may matter. I'm also considering increasing the budget to around $1,700 if that would make a meaningful difference. Any build suggestions would be appreciated.

A $1,400 build can be very powerful for gaming, but the best parts depend on your target resolution, refresh rate, and whether you need peripherals or Windows included. Check Micro Center’s current CPU, motherboard, and RAM bundles first, since those can save a lot and leave more of the budget for the graphics card. Prioritize the GPU, then choose a capable midrange CPU, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and a quality power supply.
If your only goal is maximum performance per dollar, compare complete used systems locally too. A secondhand PC can sometimes offer hardware that would cost much more when purchased new, but building new gives you warranties and lets you choose every component. For a new build, watch for store bundles and check stock before going in, since the exact recommendation may change based on what’s available.
I’d prefer to build a new one rather than buy a complete system, but I’ll keep used prices in mind while comparing the parts.
