Why are my CPU temps spiking while gaming even with a new cooler?

I've been having some issues with my PC shutting down unexpectedly. A technician informed me that my water cooling pump was malfunctioning, so I replaced it with a heatsink and fans. After running a max stress test, which pushed my CPU TDC and EDC to their limits, I saw temperatures around 70°C, which seemed fine. However, when I game, even with the load monitor showing only 20-30% usage, my CPU temperatures shoot up to almost 80-90°C. What could be causing this?

It sounds like your cooling setup might not be keeping up with the CPU under load, especially when gaming. The Ryzen 5950X can sometimes spike in temperature due to its architecture, even if the load percentage appears low. Make sure your CPU cooler is properly seated and that there’s good air circulation in your case. Also, check if any background processes might be causing those spikes. It's not uncommon for certain games to stress the CPU more than expected!

Yeah, I agree with that. Also, keep an eye on your power settings and make sure nothing is throttling. Sometimes voltage settings can make a big difference too!

Are you using any performance modes in your BIOS? Sometimes, features like Precision Boost might ramp up your CPU speed, which can lead to higher temps even if your usage doesn't show it. You could try adjusting those settings to see if it stabilizes the temps.
