Why Are My Older Acronis TIB Files Changing Size?

I'm using Acronis True Image 2019, and I've noticed that the .tib files from my older backups are changing size a bit. I'm running full backups every 5 days and incremental ones every other day. My concern is that when I want to back these older .tib files up to a second offsite location, the backups are taking forever because those files have altered in size, causing robocopy to treat them like massive new files that need backing up all over again. Why does Acronis change the sizes of older files, and is there a way to prevent this?

It sounds like Acronis might be modifying some metadata in those files. I've noticed that sometimes they tweak things like encryption keys or even retention settings, which might create slight variations in file sizes. It's probably best to check with Acronis support about this behavior, though.

Yeah, I tried reaching out to them but they keep removing my posts in their community! Still, these size changes are usually pretty minimal, just a few MB here and there.

I’m not super familiar with Acronis either, but it seems like it could be doing something like a 'Synthetic full' backup. This means it's merging your incremental backups with the base file rather than just creating a new full file each time.

Yeah, but the incrementals are still there too. It’s like a mix now–there's a full backup plus several incremental ones. The size changes aren't drastic, though; the full file is always much bigger than the incrementals.
