Why can’t I use 120Hz on my new monitor?

Hey folks! I've recently set up a new monitor that I want to run at 3440x1440 with a refresh rate of 120Hz. However, every time I try to switch it to 120Hz, my resolution drops. The only time it works properly is when I set it to 100Hz—then I can maintain the 3440x1440 resolution. I'm using DisplayPort cables with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 graphics card. Does anyone have any insights on what's happening?

Make sure to check the type of DisplayPort cable you’re using. If it’s not a high enough standard, that could definitely be why you're facing this limitation.

I think you're spot on about it being a cable limitation. A better quality DisplayPort cable should allow you to achieve that refresh rate at your desired resolution.

Also, make sure to double-check your monitor's specifications. It's possible that 120Hz isn't supported at 3440x1440 without the right setup or cable.

It sounds like a cable issue. Sometimes, the cables just can’t handle the higher refresh rates at that resolution, especially if they aren't high-quality DisplayPort cables.
