I recently got a new monitor that's supposed to be better in every way than my old one. My old monitor was 75Hz, while the new one is 100Hz, yet 75fps now seems less smooth than it used to—so much so that it feels like it's running at 30fps. I've tried enabling adaptive VSYNC in the NVIDIA control panel, but it hasn't helped. My computer doesn't support GSYNC or FreeSync. How can I ensure that 60fps actually looks like 60fps on this new setup instead of feeling like a subpar frame rate?

For a smoother experience at 60fps, ensure you’ve locked it properly (try tools like RTSS), set your refresh rate to 60Hz, and activate regular V-Sync. That might help with the choppiness!
Here’s the thing: higher refresh rate monitors can have better pixel clarity, which might make high FPS look a bit off. For instance, 60fps on my 180Hz monitor can feel like 30fps compared to my older 60Hz one. You might just be noticing the difference in pixel response rates!
Check the HDMI cable you're using. If it’s an older one with a 4K monitor, you might be stuck at 30Hz. But if you're running 1080p and using the supplied HDMI cable, you should be good. Still, is it really looking bad even when you hit 100fps? That sounds frustrating.
Sometimes it’s all in the panel technology. I’ve noticed that my OLED at 120fps feels way smoother than my other monitors. If you could share more details or a video, that would help diagnose it better!
Have you thought about setting your refresh rate down to 60Hz? If you’re experiencing screen tearing, options like V-Sync could help out. Just a thought!
I get that 60fps used to be silky smooth on my old monitor, but now it seems choppy to me. I don’t mind tearing, and even lowering the refresh rate didn’t really improve things.
Not choosing a monitor with G-SYNC or FreeSync might be an issue. Those features usually help with frame rate consistency, especially if you’re experiencing drops in FPS.
Did your monitor come with a DisplayPort cable? If you have any way to use that over HDMI, it’s worth a try. It can make a difference, especially at higher resolutions and refresh rates. Just swap it out and see if you notice any changes!
No DisplayPort cable included; I only have one HDMI and one VGA port. The monitor model is s27d366g, and I feel the FPS issue is really affecting my experience.
I’m using the cable that came with the monitor, and I'm not limited since 100fps looks buttery smooth. The problem arises only when it drops below that, even at 80fps.
