Why is my internet speed so slow after a Windows update?

Hey folks! I noticed a big drop in my internet speed after updating my Windows over the weekend. On my PC, I can only get around 15 Mbps, while my other devices are zipping along at about 600 Mbps. This slow speed happens with both wifi and ethernet, and I've got a Realtek 2.5Gb LAN port with a pretty new, shielded CAT6 cable that works perfectly fine with my laptop.

Here's what I've already tried: running a bunch of command prompt resets, updating my internet drivers and motherboard driver, adjusting the power settings, disabling IPv6, and changing my speed & duplex settings. I even uninstalled my VPN and antivirus software just in case they were the culprits.

For context, my PC is rocking some pretty new hardware including an AMD Ryzen 9800X3D, a TUF GAMING B850M-PLUS motherboard, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, a Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this without resorting to a full Windows reinstall? I really want to avoid that!

It sounds like you're dealing with an odd issue! Just remember that while 1000 Mbps is the maximum speed on paper, real life often differs due to various factors. However, since your other devices are running smoothly, that may point to your PC specifically. One thing you might want to try is checking the network adapter settings to make sure everything is configured correctly. Sometimes updates can revert certain settings back to defaults or even cause conflicts with the drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely double-check those settings. It's just frustrating because everything was working fine until that update.

It could be worth disabling any special network features that came with the motherboard. Some features like 'Energy Efficient Ethernet' or other power-saving options might throttle your speeds when they're on. Disabling those in your adapter properties might do the trick. Also, try connecting to a different port on your router, sometimes hardware can be finicky after updates.

Good point! I'll give that a shot too. I appreciate the help!
