Why Isn’t My New RTX 4090 Rig Getting Better FPS?

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I recently upgraded to a high-end gaming rig and I'm hoping to get some tips for optimizing my performance in games. My current setup includes a Rog Strix RTX 4090, Ryzen 9 7900X, 32GB of RAM, and a GB x670 Aorus Elite motherboard, all running on a 4K ASUS ROG XG27UQ UHD 144Hz monitor. Although I'm gaming in 4K, which I know is pretty heavy, I'm not seeing a significant increase in frames compared to my previous build (3080, 5800X, X570UD). For example, games like Cyberpunk run around 60-70 fps and Oblivion Remastered drops below 60 at times. With a setup like this, I expected to easily hit 100fps+. Is the 4K resolution to blame? Should I consider overclocking my components, or would that not make much difference? I'm a bit apprehensive about going back to 1440p, but any advice would be appreciated! Cheers!

I think it's also worth checking the RAM speed and make sure you're using the right profiles in your BIOS if you haven't. Sometimes, underperformance can stem from not maximizing all your hardware's potential! Just keep in mind that all of it combined at 4K can be a lot to handle.

Hey! For 4K gaming, those frames sound about right with max settings, especially in demanding titles like Cyberpunk. If you're using ray tracing, that would definitely drop the FPS. You might want to consider enabling DLSS for better performance without losing too much visual quality. Native 4K on max settings can be a bit much even for the 4090, so scaling back on settings might help you hit that 100fps mark you're looking for.

Yeah, I agree! It's also important to look at benchmarks, especially for Cyberpunk. You'll see how demanding it gets with everything cranked up.

Just a heads up, running at 4K pushes your rig hard, with more pixels to render compared to 1440p. Your 4090 is definitely powerful, but remember that a higher resolution means more workload. You could try adjusting your settings to medium or high instead of maxed out. Plus, overclocking might give you a little boost, but don't expect miracles at 4K. See if DLSS makes a difference for you too!

Good point about overclocking. At 4K, the CPU might not help much if your GPU is already doing most of the heavy lifting.

It's super demanding to run games at 4K, so don’t get discouraged! Just remember, with a setup like yours, every little change can have a significant impact on performance. It's all about finding that sweet spot!
