Can I Fix My Laptop After My Cat Spilled Water on It?

Hey everyone, I've had a bit of a disaster with my Lenovo Thinkpad (Core i7, 8th gen). My cat spilled water on it back in 2021-2022, and while I managed to dry and clean it out, it eventually began to fail. I would clean the inside frequently, and it would work for a bit, but now it's completely unresponsive. When I plug it in, it makes a noise, but the screen stays black and I get a couple of beeping sounds. I'm not super tech-savvy and I'm worried that taking it in for repairs will cost a fortune. Is it feasible for me to replace parts myself, or am I looking at a big repair bill?

You might need to check the internals for any electrical damage or corrosion. Since you're dealing with liquid spills, it's crucial to inspect your laptop thoroughly. Sometimes, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol can help, but there's a chance you might need to replace components or get a pro to handle it if the damage is serious.

Unfortunately, once water gets into electronics, it can lead to long-term damage. If it’s been acting up for two years, it might be worth considering a new laptop instead. Repairs can get expensive and there's no guarantee it will work properly again. I would recommend checking if the hard drive or SSD can be salvaged and then recycling the rest.

It's a tough call! If you're dead set on trying to fix it, be on the lookout for corrosion. Any visible signs of damage mean it's time to step up to cleaning or parts replacement. Just keep in mind that waiting this long might make repairs more complicated and costly.
