Hey everyone! I've built a pretty powerful gaming PC setup, and I'm experiencing some frustrating random shutdowns while playing games like Palworld and Dune Awakening. Here are my specs:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 4.2 GHz 16-Core
- **Cooler:** Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM
- **Motherboard:** MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI
- **RAM:** Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-6000
- **Storage:** Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB NVME (Primary), Seagate Barracuda 8 TB (Secondary)
- **GPU:** Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
- **Power Supply:** Corsair RM850e 850 W 80+ Gold
- **Case:** Corsair 4000D Airflow
- **OS:** Windows 11
I have good airflow with two fans at the front and two at the top (plus one at the back). During gaming, temperatures hit the mid to low 90s °C, and even at idle, I'm sitting around 55 to 65 °C. I've checked the event logs but found nothing indicating the cause of these shutdowns, and I've already updated drivers and the BIOS. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks!

What are you doing on the PC when it shuts off? It could help to narrow down if it’s happening under load or during less intensive tasks.
It sounds like your cooler might not be sufficient for that CPU, especially if you're reaching those high temps while gaming. Have you checked to ensure it's not overheating?
Your cooler might actually be fine, but it's worth double-checking the installation. Reapplying thermal paste and ensuring the cooler is securely fastened could help!
Those temps in the 90s are definitely at the thermal limit for your CPU. If you notice any downclocking, that’s a sign your cooling isn't cutting it. Honestly, for a CPU like yours, a better cooler might have been worth the investment instead of going slightly cheaper.
The cooler has two fans pushing air away, and the area around the CPU feels fine. CoreTemp indicates a max of 91°C, and I haven't noticed it getting much hotter.
