I purchased a prebuilt computer from ibuypower in 2022, and while it wasn't slow at first, it's now incredibly sluggish when doing simple tasks like opening websites. Gaming works fine, but downloading and searching on my computer takes forever. My internet is working great since my laptop runs well on the same connection. Can anyone help me troubleshoot what might be causing this slow performance? Here are my specs:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
- RAM: 16 GB
- CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i7 12700KF
- OS: Windows 11
I have 150 GB free out of a total of 779 GB storage. My internet speeds are:
- Download: 20 mbps
- Upload: 18.4 mbps
Let me know if you need more details! Thanks!

Those download speeds seem pretty low, especially for modern usage. It might be worth testing your laptop to compare the speeds there. I mean, you mentioned it runs fine, but if both devices are the same, then it's likely not the internet itself.
Have you tried clearing your browser's cookies and cache? You can do this in Chrome by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Del. It might help speed things up a bit!
How are you connected to the internet? If you're using WiFi, check if your WiFi antenna is connected properly. If you're on Ethernet, make sure the cable isn't damaged. Sometimes, bad connections can cause slow performance.
I'm connected via Ethernet, so I don't think that's the issue.
Have you tried booting from a Linux LiveUSB? If the computer runs faster that way, it might be an issue with your Windows setup. Also, check the SMART parameters of your hard drive to make sure it's healthy!
I tested my laptop, and it's actually the same speed. I guess it's not just my computer; it's the internet too. I live in a pretty remote area, so that might explain it.
