Is My RAM Usage Normal When Idle?

I've been noticing that my RAM usage is consistently around 30% even when I'm not doing much on my computer, like not playing games. I'm unsure if this is typical or if there's something I should look into. Can anyone help clarify this for me?

How much RAM do you actually have installed? Knowing the total amount could really help in figuring this out!

I have 16GB.

If you’re running Windows, it typically needs a good chunk of RAM just to operate, often around 2-4GB depending on what’s installed. So that could easily account for what you're seeing. Your system will manage RAM effectively, unloading programs when needed.

Make sure to check how many tabs you have open in Chrome. Browsers can use a lot of RAM with several tabs running! If you're around 30% and not experiencing lag, you're likely in good shape.

It’s normal for PCs to use RAM even when idle. For instance, your system needs some memory just to run the operating system. So it’s okay if you’re using around 30% as long as you aren’t close to maxing out your RAM.
