Should I upgrade my GPU now or wait for the next generation?

I've got a Ryzen 7 7700x and my GPU, a 3070 Ti, is starting to feel like a choke point for my gaming. I play at 1440p, and while it handles most games decently—thanks to DLSS—I'm particularly concerned about performance in demanding titles like Star Citizen. I've been eyeing the new 5070 Ti and 9070 XT cards, with some saying the 5070 Ti is great for gaming, productivity, and video editing. However, I have always used NVIDIA cards and I'm hesitant about switching to AMD. Plus, I've heard mixed opinions about whether the 50 series really outperforms the 40 series significantly. Should I stick with my current setup and wait for the anticipated 60 series cards, or would upgrading to one of the new 50 series options now be a smart move if the prices are right?

I get where you're coming from! If your 3070 Ti is still giving you decent frames at 1440p and it’s only a few games that are stressing it, I’d suggest waiting. The next generation could bring the performance leap you need, and it might be worth it for some of those new features.

For productivity, the 5070 Ti does have an edge over the 9070 XT. But if you're just focusing on gaming and have seen good improvements after upgrading from a 3080 to a 9070 XT, you might find it worthwhile too. Just keep in mind the market's condition and don’t rush unless it's really bothering you.

Honestly, both the 5070 Ti and the 9070 XT would be solid upgrades. If you're looking for a big leap in performance, especially with future games and demanding titles, it might be worth waiting for the next generation to drop since it should bring better VRAM and overall improvements. Plus, prices should stabilize later on, which is a bonus.

That makes sense! I'm just worried about missing out on good deals if I wait too long.

If you're already getting good performance and you're not too annoyed with your current setup, waiting for the newer cards might be the way to go. The prices are still inflated on GPUs right now, so holding off could save you some cash in the long run.

Yeah, I've been seeing the prices are pretty crazy. Just trying to gauge if it's worth jumping now or not.

With how GPU trends have been lately, the jumps from one generation to the next haven’t been that drastic. If I were you, I’d consider grabbing a 5070 Ti now if you find it under MSRP, especially since you play demanding games. But keep an eye on those new releases—they could offer more value overall.
