Is the RX 9060 XT Good Enough for 1440p Gaming, or Should I Invest in the RX 9070 XT?

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a GPU to match my 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor. Right now, I've got a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and I'm mostly diving into grand strategy games—hence my CPU choice. I'm eyeing the new RX 9060 XT 16GB priced around $400, but I've also come across a used RX 9070 XT for about $700. I'd rather not break the bank unless the performance gain at my resolution is really worth it. While grand strategy games tend to lean more on the CPU side, I do occasionally play newer single-player titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and I'm okay with medium settings at 1440p. Do you think the RX 9060 XT will suffice for my needs, or is it worth spending extra on the RX 9070 XT? Thanks for your insights!

The RX 9060 XT is decent for medium settings at 1440p, but the RX 9070 XT is a much stronger option for ultra settings. It really comes down to what you're planning to play. If you're sticking mostly to grand strategy games, the 9060 XT might work, but for anything fast-paced, the 9070 XT is the way to go!

Got it, thanks! What about a used RX 7800 XT for $400?

I'd be careful with the used RX 9070 XT since it's relatively new. There might be a reason someone is selling it after just a few months. Definitely look into that before making a decision!

Good point! I appreciate the heads up!

If you can stretch your budget a bit, spending around $120 more for the new RX 9070 XT at around $820 is totally worth it. You get a warranty and way better 1440p performance. The 9060 XT might struggle, especially on an ultrawide monitor, and while it’s fine for strategy games, you may want more for fast-paced titles. Don't shortchange that nice monitor!

Unfortunately, $800 is a bit too high for me. What do you think about the used 7800 XT?
