Why Is My M.2 Drive Not Detected After the First Boot?

I just built a new PC and I'm facing a problem where my M.2 drive doesn't get detected after the first boot. When I power on my system initially, it boots into Windows 11 without any issues. However, after shutting it down and trying to boot it again, it always goes straight to the BIOS, where my drive isn't recognized. The only way to get it to boot properly again is by power cycling my system - turning off the PSU, holding the power button, turning the PSU back on, and then starting the PC. I've already tried reinstalling Windows 11, tweaking different BIOS settings, reseating the drive, booting with just one RAM stick, and testing with a different M.2 drive (Lexar NM620 1TB). I've searched for solutions everywhere but haven't found anything that works. Anyone know what might be causing this?

You should check the compatibility of your M.2 drive with the motherboard. It might help to try using a different M.2 drive to see if that resolves the issue. Sometimes, certain drives just don’t work well with specific motherboards. It's interesting that when you put an empty drive in the second M.2 slot, your new one gets detected – that’s a clue!

Right? It indicates that the slot itself is functioning. Have you checked the BIOS settings to make sure the M.2 option is enabled?

Just a heads up, making changes to BIOS settings can risk losing data, so always back up your important files first. If you're thoroughly checking everything, you’re on the right track! Good luck with the troubleshooting!

It sounds like your RAM might not be properly seated. Why not remove the RAM sticks and reseat them? Also, try doing the same with your M.2 drive to ensure it's connected securely. Sometimes these connections can cause issues if they aren't snug enough. Good luck!
