Hey everyone! I've got this old disc I found, and although it has some scratches, it's not terrible – just the usual wear you'd expect. When I look at the disc, it shows a bunch of image files, but a crazy number of them are around 1.3GB and won't open because of an error. Only a small fraction, about 1%, are 4MB and open just fine. I've heard that the disc might be damaged, but I really doubt it since I've had much worse scratched discs work perfectly. This disc has photos from 15 years ago that are really important to me. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Is this a DVD? Because if you’re seeing that many 1.3GB files on a disc, it sounds like it might be damaged. A DVD could only hold a few files that big. Just trying to help you think it through!
It's actually a CD-R which can only hold 700MB, so you're right—there shouldn't even be one 1.3GB file. Most of the photos should be around 3-5MB. I get that the disc could be damaged, but how could that happen? I've seen worse discs work fine!
